Children's education center launched in slums of Hyderabad
After several months of planning, our native team in India has officially launched our eduction center in Hyderabad's most expansive slum area. Working right on the edge of one of the city's main trash heaps, we've registered 43 children for school, providing them with all supplies needed to enroll, as well as weeknight meals and tutorials. Many of the children are orphans with at least one parent deceased, and for those who do have parents, they are uneducated. Thus the program by necessity includes tutoring and homework assistance from our staff.
Our computer literacy classes will begin next month after we solve electrical issues at our new facility. There are an additional 21 children on our waiting list. We are providing these wait-listed children with some hygiene and nutritional supplements, but due to lack of funding we are not yet able to enroll them into school.
